SHOCKtober: 90-81

Each film listed today earned two votes.

90. Repulsion -- 1965, Roman Polanski
89. Zombie -- 1979, Lucio Fulci
88. Silver Bullet -- 1985, Daniel Attias
87. Noroi: The Curse --  2005, Koji Shiraishi
86. The Collector -- 2009, Marcus Dunstan
85. The Innkeepers -- 2011, Ti West
84. Witchboard -- 1986, Kevin Tenney
83. Night of the Living Dead -- 1990, Tom Savini
82. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me -- 1992, David Lynch

81. Jeepers Creepers -- 2001, Victor Salva

The earliest bits of Jeepers Creepers are so damn good- the creepy truck! a dude stuffing bodies down a well!- that I want to love it...but oh boy, once the monster is revealed I just nope on out of there. The coat and the hat and the faintest wisps of a mullet and the frilled lizard-looking flaps and I get so disappointed just thinking about it. But the beginning! I'll give you that.

On the other hand, I'm totally on board for The Innkeepers and nothing even really happens in that movie, so what do I know? But this scene:

That did me in something terrible. Love that movie.

OMG, Repulsion. So aptly named cuz I get the creeps just thinking about it. I could probably watch Audition 20 more times before I'd summon up the courage to re-watch Repulsion. Great flick to watch ONCE, though.

Love that a movie like Witchboard gets 2 votes. Its no genre classic but very underrated.

When I saw Jeepers Creepers, from the point that Justin Long finds the sewn-up kid in the lair, I detected a pervy vibe (for lack of a better term) to it that was offputting and that only increased throughout the movie. At the end I looked at the DVD box and saw that it was directed by Victor Salvo, and the pervy vibe unfortunately was no longer a mystery as to what was going on.

The one thing about Repulsion that I love is the line "one day I must repair this crack."

Loved 'The Innkeepers', but didn't find it even remotely scary. I just really enjoyed the characters and the banter and the atmos. 'Repulsion' however, traumatised the everloving fuck outta me when i was about seven and it was playing on a nighttime ferry trip from England to Ireland. Actually, I can't believe it didn't make my list. Maybe the memory of being brain-raped Polanski-style at such an early age was too much to bring up.

So, does the other person who had Silver Bullet on their list mean they're my soul mate? Is that how this works? Because that movie when I was a kid...yowzer!

Watched it last year for the first time since I was a kid and...ummm..."scary" it certainly is not. Ridiculous? Absolutely.

The Innkeepers is the most recent movie to scare me... and boy, did it ever. Not sure what happened, maybe I was in a susceptible mood, but this movie worked on me like gangbusters. I was on the edge of my seat, nervous, wringing my hands together.... so scared was I that I had to (totally admission time) stop the movie! Had to turn it off! Couldn't take no more! So I went to bed and finished the movie in the morning. It was still scary. Loved it, it's my favorite Ti West film (no relation).
