Casting off

The remake of Prom Night is gearing up for a 2008 release. Brittany Snow has been cast as Kim Hammond, the role originally made famous by Jamie Lee Curtis. Brittany Snow is apparently this person...

...and beyond that I can't tell you much, except I assume that mascara is one of her favoritest things evarrr.

Let's face it, a Prom Night remake doesn't sound like a terrible idea- the original makes me sort of nostalgic (it's an '80s slasher, after all), but really we all secretly know it's not a very good movie. I mean, the killer has a fucking to-do list. What the original has over the remake, however, is that bitchin' disco dance scene. I loves me a clapping circle and light-up floor!

Meanwhile, the cast list for the much-maligned Halloween remake is just killer. Names attached include Brad Dourif, Malcolm McDowell, Dee Wallace Stone, Crazy Ol' Clint Howard, and...Adrienne Barbeau. I almost don't even care if the movie sucks with Adrienne Barbeau attached. I mean...it's Adrienne Barbeau. In a horror movie. What more do you need? All Rob Zombie needs to do now to guarantee me seeing the flick in a theatre is to give Tom Atkins a role somewhere in there.

Isn't it funny that I started a post on the Final Girl Forums about Prom Night?

I'm not looking forward to the remake, I have to say, although there are some things I can see that need fixing.

I desperately need Slick to make a cameo!!!

I've no doubt the remake will be lousy and I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to it, necessarily... but I don't think the original is "untouchable" either. Of course, whether any movie is "untouchable" is another conversation...

I have an idea! Remakes/sequels usually update a flick to current times and, occasionally, even into the future. What if...we set one in the past?! You know, like "Prom Night" would be set in the 1920s or maybe even the Middle Ages - yeah, that's it! "Ye Olde Fete Night." All the cool kids could gather to dance the Farandole or Ronde, and a mentally challenged cyclops with a mace could chase them around the castle green...or something.

I have Hollywood on the other line, they want to talk to you!

This is gold, I tell you - GOLD!

I think this idea can work if it really plays off the ridiculous prom/sweet 16 culture of today. Please God don't let it be a prom set in a castle with a ghoul. I

Theron, I love it! The Prom Night series should continue and criss-cross around time.

Prom Night 63: Box Social of Blood

Oooh - how about crossing genres AND time:

Prom Night 16: Square Dance at the OK Corral

Or we could even tell 'em who the killer is:

Prom Night 43: Pow Wow - Squanto's Revenge

What the movies need now is more Adrienne and Tom, they're the actors we see far too little of...

What about a Prom Night/Quantum Leap crossover where Sam Beckett jumps from prom to prom across time and is ALWAYS the killer.

That's a series that could go on FOREVER. You can't kill him, he just leaps to a new prom!

Theron: that's one of the best ideas I have ever heard! I will now keep my fingers crossed till that happens, and not just to Prom Night ... Hell Raiser in the middleages or Nightmare on Elm Street in the stone age... I could go on , my imagination is ignited...

Remakes, well if they keep making them maybe someday they will learn to do them well.. practice makes a master. Even if it IS a little sad that every remake also is an original film NOT being made...
