What happens in Vegas...

The teaser trailer for the new Resident Evil movie, RE: Extinction is live and ripe for the checkin' out, so check it out.

THRILL! to the computer-generated sands covering the Las Vegas cityscape!
WONDER! if there will actually be zombies in this installment!
PULL! up your pants!

I'm not going to lie.

1) It looks pretty terrible.
2) I don't care that it looks pretty terrible- I'll see it anyway, for you see, I'm a huge nerd for all things Resident Evil.

This movie series is ultra-cheesy fun, and I actually think the first film is fairly underrated. But this newest installment...a skanked-up Milla Jovovich roundhouse-kicking gorked-out zombies in a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland is just too good to pass up, no? I mean...look at all the hyphens I used in that sentence! Surely that bodes well for the movie.

Waddaya mean "looks terrible"? It looks like a perfect popcorn film!

It's got one thing going for it big time: it's NOT a remake ;-)

And speaking of all things Resident Evil, I just re-bought Resident Evil 4 for the gamecube (playing it on my Wii), have you played that game? It's terrific! To say the least.

When we saw the trailer during out recent movie theater outing (taking in Ghost Rider) my son and I just looked at each other and grinned.

We're so going to see it.

Heh...true, at least it's an original story. By "looks terrible", I mean that good/bad is probably what it'll end up being- and that's not a bad thing in my book. On the other hand, it doesn't mean it'll be a "good" movie, you know? That doesn't mean I'll love it any less.

Of course, we won't know anything until we see it.

RE4 is one of my super awesome most favoritest videogames ever. I love it.

"In this newest installment"? That what she does in EVERY installment...but she does it well. And isn't that really all that matters?

I've loved every bit of the first two Resident Evil movies and am super excited about the new one.

I mean, I put the FILMuary Spectacular on hold the other night to post about the trailer!

I liked the first, a lot. But what I wanna know is, when we're gonna see a BurgerTime movie?

Hollywood, I'm looking at you.

Giant fried eggs with legs!!

C'mon.

Holy crap, this blog is KICK ASS!!! How did it take me so long to find it?

I'm a horror freak too. :) Now excuse me while I go spend HOURS reading your archives....

I'm sorry, I just can't do it. After seeing two installments wasting a perfectly good video game premise, I just can't take the pain anymore.

I mean, really, they originally had George Romero all signed, sealed and delivered to do the Resident Evil movies. What the hell happened here?

Jesse-

I won't settle for anything less than a "Shadowgate" movie before you get your damned BurgerTime.

:P

Actually, that one's on the slate right after "Dig Dug: The Descent 2".

I absolutely can't wait for this movie. I loved the first one. The second didn't quite make me smile as much as the first one did but I enjoyed it well enough.

Also, it's got Ali Larter in it. She's great.

There were rumors that there was going to be a new set of movies that would be more true to the games but it didn't get very far, I guess.

Jesse, sign me up as first in line for a Burger Time movie.

Rhys,it took you a long time to find Final Girl because I'd been hiding it from you. Now that you know where it is, though, you'd might as well enjoy it.

But really, thansk much and welcome. :)

Patrick, as an RE fan and a Romero fan, I do feel your pain. After the first movie, I decided to just sort of forget that these movies are even based on RE- though the Nemesis, as cheesily awful as it was, gave me a nerdish thrill when I saw it onscreen.

I kind of wish the series could get a do-over or "Beta" version or something, and stick closer to the games- and be more horror than action.

Skippy- you're so right about Milla, and that's one of the things I like about her. She's iin some hokey-ass movies and plays some odd roles, but she never gives less than 100% and she NEVER seems to be winking at the camera. She doesn't come off as if she's "stooping" to make a buck, you know?

Michelle- yeah, I was excited to see Ali Larter- she's dope. Don't quote me on this, but I THINK- just maybe- she's playing Claire Redfield. If it's true, that's so fucking cool I might have a nerdgasm.

They should do... well, "should"... I think it would be cool if there was a sort of Resident Evil meets The Messenger crossover-ish thing: Milla as the Joan of Arc of zombies, back from the dead but also a prophet of god, caught between the living and the damned dead, trying to convert the resurrected cannibals to see the spiritual light.
"Look! it's Lent! Can't you just eat meat!? I mean, non-people meat?"
It seems there's enough weird possibilities in there.
And how many films are there with hot, kick-ass, zombie martyrs?

ExACTly.

Stacie, from what I've seen she is playing Claire. IMDB.com and some article I read a while ago tell me so. :)

Stacie Ponder said...

Well, now, that's just too fucking cool!

I am going to watch it! Mind you I don't worry about how it fits to the games because I didn't play them.

I love these movies!
