remake shmremake part 2

Holy fucking shit, it's as if it's Remake Week around here, eh? Don't worry, it'll all be over soon. Just close your eyes and think of England, dear.

Next up in the trailer parade: the direct-to-DVD rehashing of April Fool's Day (clicken ze trailer). According to the folks at Bloody-Disgusting, this version looks "very similar to the original". According to me, however, "The folks at Bloody-Disgusting must be smoking some serious something because this version doesn't resemble the original film whatsofuckingever".

It seems to me that The Updatening of the love-it-or-hate-it (and we all know how much I love it) 1986 slasher flick has rendered it a (perhaps) serviceable thriller. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me if the new version is completely unrelated to the original or if it's a shot-for-shot copy, because the original film boasts something the remake can never hope to match:

Yes, April Fool's Day boasts the awesome power of the combined forces of Deborah Foreman and Amy Steel. See, they're mighty and badass and untouchable and unstoppable- not at all unlike The Soul Patrol.

Holy crap, I fucking love Deborah Foreman and Amy Steel and G.L.O.W.

Yeah, I didn't see how it was supposed to be like the original either. It looks more like I Know What You Did Last Summer, right down to the DVD cover art.

So in theory, if they go with the original ending still, the shenanigans took up a year of at least 2 people's lives. Did the girl hang out in Europe for a year?

I thought the same thing with the IKWYDLS cover.

Damn, favorite part of "G.L.O.W." was the gal reading her fanmail and then realizing she's reading a letter from her perverted stalker, Tim.

"...Tim, that is so OBSCENE!"

Me three with the IKWYDLS similarity. Maybe a little Prom Night thrown in for good measure. Plus it's looks hella cheesy.

I hate April Fool's Day.

Sucks it's been remade, but still, it's not a classic in either way.

It's a one trick pony worth one viewing.

Ha! Looks like several people agree that this could possibly be a remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer produced by the Lifetime Channel. Break out the Cheese Wiz folks…although, it does have Scout (who I dig) so I’ll watch it just for that. Five bucks says it still won’t be as bad as the Black Christmas remake.

I can't believe someone else knows about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling...

The original is a classic. It has one of the best ending I have ever seen in a horror movie. I mean what other horror movie ends with everyone alive.
As for the remake, I think they borrowed the name, but not the premise. The trailer looks nothing like the original.
It looks like a renter, if that.

I don't even like the original, but I'm positive it's better than the remake. It just looks so...blah.

Who the hell names their child Milan, anyway?

Is it me or has the trailer already revealed who the killer is? Ie - Girl screaming "Your lying!" in the rain holding a gun!

Evil johnny, they're just being mysterious. Trying to trick us and such, because the movie's put together so well that they can afford to give us clues towards the killer.

...Maybe.

I usually agree with you on things, but when it comes to "April Fool's Day" I am in a kind of mystical, higher-power type of loving agreement.

I love the original, though my boyfriend almost lynched me for showing him a slasher movie with that ending. Man was he pissed. I love the ending, though.
Oh, and Amy Steel rocks my face off, in the words of Stacie Ponder.

Uh... I think that trailer gives away the ending. Still, I'll see it for Scout. The girl makes me smile.
