mama's boy

Mayhaps you've heard by now, but in case you haven't...it seems that the Friday the 13th remake/reimagining/ricardomontalbanening is GO! Shock 'Till You Drop and every other movie website on The Internet have all got the scoop on the latest adventures of Jason Voorhees.

The Platinum Dunes production has recently taken on writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, and there's a chance that director Jonathan Liebesman is attached to helm the flick. So let's see...Shannon and Swift are the scribes behind Freddy vs Jason, which I just...umm...loved; Liebesman directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, which I thought was...err...awesome; and we all know that Platinum Dunes is the production company of Michael Bay, which is a name that speaks for itself.

In other words, this movie's gonna be great, and I can't wait! Viva la remake!

I was holding out hope that Tarantino's idea would make it through. Eh. Meh.

Dear Hollywood:

Do not fucking touch Nightmare On Elm Street. Ever. For any reason.

Seriously, Hollywood, stop this.

Some days I wake up and I'm just so damned in love with you, Stacie... and then I catch the wife looking and me and I think "Please don't read my mind today... not today..."

Bring it on, I say. I'll even pull on my Jason Voorhees Halloween costume when I head out to catch it.

I'm a cheap date, so sue me. ;)

Maybe they can talk Kevin Bacon into a cameo...and kill him again!
(Le sigh...)

Stacy,

This is a bit off topic, but I wanted to share an essay I found elsewhere about Romero's "Dawn of the Dead"

Check it out, it's a good read.

I also agree about the Nightmare on Elm Street series, but if they could just KILL Johnny Depp in this new movie, I would stand up and cheer...

Oooh, and instead if Jason's hockey mask, they can use a fencing mask! See, it's still a mask, but it's a high-class mask! I mean, hockey? Please...

So are they remaking F13, but working it so that Jason is the killer instead of his momma? (Hope I didn't spoil anyone there.) I don't know how to feel. I say that I will just shut up and deal with the remakes, but then another one comes along and makes me want to tear my hair out. (It's a good thing I have a weave.)

I wouldn't hold my breath on the Elm Street series being spared. At this point, I'm waiting on a "reimagining" of Jaws.

I say Nightmare on Elm Street is due for a reimagineering, what with meth and Adderall, sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome, etc. that's broken loose in the time since. And I say cast Johnny Depp to inherit Freddy's fingers a-la-Edward Scissorhands. Brilliant! Greenlight it now so it's done in time for the 25th year anniversary!

Honestly, I think we all mostly agree we wouldn't mind sequels & remakes as much if they were SCARY, and if there were also many more original movies being released that were scary. That's the problem.

"so that Jason is the killer instead of his momma"

Anyone see the comment regarding this in the DVD extras for our film club assignment?
