FINAL GIRL explores the slasher flicks of the '70s and '80s...and all the other horror movies I feel like talking about, too. This is life on the EDGE, so beware yon spoilers!

Jul 1, 2010

let's do this.

Let's have a Film Club choice- right here, right now. Are you nervous? I am! Okay. Here goes.

Yes, writer/director Ti West's highly-acclaimed 2009 film The House of the Devil is next up! Friends of mine have been raving about it, non-friends of mine have been raving about it. I've had the DVD sitting on a shelf since before Christmas so I think it's time I watched the damn thing. You watch it too, and it'll be just like we're watching it together. It's on NEtflix instant watch right now, if you're all into modern technology of that variety.

So! You write about it and add a link/mention the Film Club in your review, send me a link, and I'll add you to my review. Isn't that easy? Yes! It is! If you've already written about House of the Devil and you still want to play, all you have to do is retrofit your review with some sort of PS- Film Club or something. Still easy!

I'm super psyched to finally see this.

The film: The House of the Devil
The due date: Monday, July 26
The place to send your link: stacieponder (at!) gmail (dot!! (com!!!))

If you watch this back-to-back with Cabin Fever 2, you won't believe the same director is responsible for both... excellent choice, BTW....

I loved this movie. I think every minute of it is brilliant, although the Platinum Dunes-loving crowd will (and do) find it boring.

Don't know what's good for them, I tells ya'... *shakes walking stick*

Ooh, I was disappointed by this one. It had everything it needed to have to be full-on creepy (Tom Noonan: 'nuff said) but didn't get there for me. I'll be curious to hear what you think!

HELL YES. You can expect me there, Ponder.

Woohoo!

I think I am finally going to be able to participate. I have already reviewed this "professionally," but as I have seen it several times, I think I can manage a few words for my own personal site.

Yay for stealing from yourself!

Totally down! Saw this about six months ago and I loved it. 'Twas a slow burn, but a fun one.

It looks like The House Of The Devil doesn't have an Australian distrubutor (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't think I'll ever understand how crapsticles like Jeckle + Hyde find a distributor in my country but well received films like The House of the Devil don't.

I'm surprised at all the bad reviews Cabin Fever 2 is getting. Ti West has disowned it but it's pretty terrific.

House of the Devil is a good movie with a cool 80's vibe to it. The first half hour or so could be removed and it would still be a good movie albeit short.

I shall do as Joel H - spiff up my extant (and generally favorable) review and link to you on it. Sweet holy fuck this is gonna be awesome!

I've had this in my instant queue for a few months now. I guess it's time to watch.

I loved House of The Devil and Trigger Man (haven't seen Cabin Fever 2 yet) but what was the deal with The Roost? That movie was just flat out terrible except for the cool framing device with Tom Noonan. The Roost is easily the worst movie I've ever seen and I've seen Hiding Out starring John Cryer.

I thought everything about this movie was great other than the whole demon reveal, sacrifice lameness .... AND.... that goddamn pizza! This just ruined the whole thing for me! Why wouldnt these people just get the girl to their house, knock her out and tie her up and then wait for midnight, or whatever? Why take the CHANCE that she might feel like ordering pizza (when she'd already HAD pizza that same day for lunch) and if the idiotic bearded guy in the woods (a bad plot device in itself) delivered the pizza, did he MAKE IT HIMSELF out in the woods? Did he go running through the forest to a pizza joint and pick it up himself, or did he actually work at the pizza place and take the girl's call in order (which was implied? And how did he do all this and still be able to be hanging around outside so he can shoot the main girl's friend. I just couldn't get my head around such inanity! I LOVED the movie until the bearded guy. He just took me out of the movie and seemed like someone just wanted to create a part for their friend or something. I LOVED the lead girl and would have been completely happy if it had been 90mins of her creeping around the house and some vague ambiguous horror stuff!

Dude, you've got a lot to say. You should save it for your review. I have a feeling there will be a lot of positive reviews of this movie, so it'll be nice to hear another argument.
