FINAL GIRL explores the slasher flicks of the '70s and '80s...and all the other horror movies I feel like talking about, too. This is life on the EDGE, so beware yon spoilers!

when it's time to choose....

I'm keepin' things eighties-style and I'm going classic for the next Film Club selection, y'all:

NEAR DARK

Let's all take in director Kathryn Bigelow's film about those cooler-than-you vampires, who just so happen to be holding on to third place in the current "Favorite Bloodsucker?" poll over yonder on the right. Annnnd, you can watch the film, write about it, then head to Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors and get your nerd on by gushing all over star Jenette Goldstein and telling her how rad she is. That's my plan, anyway!

The film: Near Dark
the due date: Monday, April 21

Great choice! I've been looking for a reason to move this up a few spots on my queue.

Sorry for this dumb question, but does the FILM CLUB follow the same rules as a blog-a-thon?

Meaning, is this a "come one, come all" thingy, or something else?

Best vampire movie ever!

Great pick and a great movie. But, how do you have a vampire poll and not include Chris Sarandon? I'm just saying. "Welcome to Fright Night!" But you did include Your Mom, so all is forgiven.

Sweet choice! I've been waiting to see this one for ages. Point Break is a classic, plain and simple. I have mountains of faith in Kathryn Bigelow.

And (totally off-topic but still worth mentioning) New Bev is showing Maniac tonight! Just thought I'd give the good people of Final Girl the heads up (or off! da dum tssh!)

Just for the record, my favorite bloodsucker is Gary Oldman, but I've said that before.

If I'm terrifically lazy for the twenty-thousandth time in a row and don't get a post ready for FGFC this time, I can just link to the giant post I did on this movie back in aught-six! Win win!

awesome, haven't seen this movie in years! Great pick!

Aah, I do love Near Dark; one of my favorites. I have it on VHS, because VHS is, well, awesome. Also, Bill Paxton was incredibly hot in this movie as the punker/hick vampire. This is the only time the words "Bill Paxton" and "incredibly hot" will ever be used in relation to one another. Punker vampires are just awesome. Where's Kiefer Sutherland on the poll? Now I have to vote for Your Mom!

Cool! I'm glad everyone's so psyched. It's available on DVD- the link at the end is for the Netflix page. I have no idea whether or not it's hard to find otherwise...I've got the VHS, myself.

Wow, did I leave a bunch of vampires off the poll list or what? Boo, me. BOO I SAY.

Oh, Bonnie! Thanks for pointing out that it's Bill Paxton in that pic - now I'm totally psyched!

And I just happen to think he's "incredibly hot" in Big Love ;)

I must admit I was surprised to not see Catherine Deneuve on this list. The Hunger is some sexy vampire shiz.

Yeah, I left the weight of the lesbian vampire contingent on Ingrid Pitt's shoulders.

It's becoming apparent that I need to have another vampire poll for all the ones I forgot.

Where's the Aaliyah contingent?

FatalPierce said...

The Aaliyah contingent is sitting quietly with the Stuart Townsand group.

What about Paul Reubens? C'mon his death scene was...I haven't the words, but it was something!

This one has a good performance by Lance Henriksen too. After I first saw this movie I thought Jenny Wright was going to become a star but that never really took root.
