Film Club Field Trip

I know it's been a while since there's been a new selection for the Film Club, but I think the August 4th opening of The Descent is the perfect time for a little experiment, don't you? An experiment in leaving the house and terror! Yes, kids, how about a little cyber-field trip?
I haven't been talking much about this upcoming British spelunking-gone-bloodily-awry but I've been quietly excited about it for sometime. I've got a general idea of what goes on in the movie, but I haven't read too much about it so, one hopes, there will be plenty of surprises when I see it. It's even on the cover of the most recent Rue Morgue magazine and I've barely glanced at the pictures I'm avoiding it so much. I've seen many a high rating for it, however, and heard it's quite deliciously good.

So! Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to go see The Descent this weekend...or before, oh, say next Wednesday, August 9. I'll do a writeup that day and encourage any of you who participate to do the same and we can discuss and link to each other and have a successful Film Club Field Trip. And remember, the Final Girl Film Club is so on the edge, we don't even need permission slips for this trip! Bust out the Twizzlers and let's rock this fucker!

The movie: The Descent, opening August 4
The due date: Wednesday, August 9

Is it sad that I've had the descent on dvd for almost a year now?

I do love importing movies :)

In other words, I may participate this time around. I've been wanting to watch it again thanks to all of the commercials on the tv. However, I may not leave the house to do it.

Hey, no fair, dreamrot. You gotta leave the house for this one! Maybe you could watch it on a laptop at the park, or if you could find a nearby cave...

Dammit! I want to see this but won't get out to the theatre in the next little while.

Unfortunatly, theron, here in the suburbs of Detroit, there are not a lot of caves...though I like the idea of taking my laptop to the park to watch it. It would be a great movie to watch at night, in the woods, by yourself...

How about a parking garage? That's kinda like an urban cave...

Saw it today, and thought it was pretty good. Not as good as the director's previous werewolf movie, DOG SOLDIERS, but maybe that's because the first half dragged a little. Might've helped if critics hadn't kept comparing it to ALIEN, but I guess they needed *something* to compare it to.

But definitely check it out. Made *me* jump a couple times!

Going to see a movie at a theatre....what a concept. I have always believed that to get the real horror movie experience you need to see it in a really dark theatre. preferabley one that is not packed to the hilt with noisy teens. Try the latest early show. It usually has the fewest people.
Cant wait to hear what you all think.

I"m so mad. I probably won't see it until after Wednesday, cuz David's out of town until Tuesday. I hear it's soooooo good. I may participate later, if that cool, babydoll.

I'm going to have to pass on this selection, my son declared it "too scary looking" to see on the big screen.
