FINAL GIRL explores the slasher flicks of the '70s and '80s...and all the other horror movies I feel like talking about, too. This is life on the EDGE, so beware yon spoilers!

a night out!

Hey Los Angelites! It's time to get gussied up for tomorrow night's Grindhouse Film Festival:

Yes, a delightful holiday double feature: Black Christmas and Silent Night, Deadly Night...on the big screen, introduced by John effing Saxon.
BLACK CHRISTMAS director Bob Clark is well known for his holiday perennial A CHRISTMAS STORY, but years before that he crafted a very different holiday film. BLACK CHRISTMAS is one of the earliest and best of what later devolved into the 'slasher film' genre and is not to be missed. This is our third annual holiday screening of the film, which we intend to continue as an ongoing tribute to Bob Clark. The film will be introduced by star John Saxon.

Director Charles E. Sellier's SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT was faced with nationwide protests over it's "killer Santa" premise upon release in 1984, becoming one of the most controversial films of all time. While we don't expect angry parents picketing outside the theater this time around, we do expect that everyone will have a great time with this entertaining film from the man previously best known as the creator of the Grizzly Adams franchise.

The event starts at 7:30pm, and admission for the double feature plus a reel of rare exploitation trailers and a free raffle is only $8.00.

I am sooooo excited to see Black Christmas on the big big screen with a big big crowd! That's right, I'll be there and I'll be square. If you go, look for me: I'll be decked out in my finest movie-watchin' muu-muu, though I may cover up with a nice appliqued holiday sweater...it's been a bit chilly in the evenings. Say hi, but please, no photos! The event is about the films, not me.

Me me me! ME!

ME!

Did I mention that I'm going?

Drat! And here I am, stuck in New York! Oh, what I wouldn't give to see those two fine films on the big screen! Black Christmas is one of my top ten slasher movies of all time, and Silent Night, Deadly Night is a mean, sick little slasher that I absolutely enjoy. And John Saxon and I share the same birthday--- A MERE COINCIDENCE? Probably. Anyway, I wish I could be there if only to meet Miss Stacie Ponder in person, muu muu and all. Ahh, the curse of being trapped on an opposite coast. Everyone, have a good time as I sit here at home, watching these fine pieces of Yultide cruelty on a crummy tv. I'm not bitter. No.

I want to go too but 1) I live in Boston and 2) I only gained 85 pounds and I'm embarrassingly thin at 250lbs. in my muumuu.

You're going? Hell, I bet you're already there.

I'm with Bonnie and John, all of my attempts at getting there are being thwarted by distance...One day we'll beat this whole space/time conundrum!

I too, being on the wrong coast, shall not be able to attend this splendid-sounding event.

In its honor, however, I will put on a choker, get schnockered, and go down to the zoo and watch the turtles have sex for three days.

Which, it should be known, is how I spend all my weekends.

I like Bing Crosby and White Christmas as much as anyone, but nothing puts me in good Christmas cheer as much as Morgan Ames' soundtrack to Silent Night, Deadly Night.

Cool, I got to watch a print of Black Christmas last year at a horror marathon-no John Saxon intro though. I just watched Silent Night last night-I love both of those movies. If I could go I would TOTALLY get a photo of you!!!

How's the Grindhouse night work out for you? I swore off it after idiots laughed hysterically all the way through The Candy Snatchers. A little respect, please!

Here you go, Chuck. I'm the one on the left, but this photo was taken a while ago. I have since rendered myself clean-shaven.

A photo of me to appease the masses!

Ya know Ja, I actually saw turtles mating at Animal Kingdom. Disney can't control everything. :)

Anyway, I remember all of the controversy that "Silent Night, Deadly Night" created when it was released...at least it wasn't the horrible robot Santa from "Futurama"... I don't know why they could've just shorted him out with a microwave like how Leela killed Bender in one episode...and turned him into a little car...

I saw the turltes mating too, but I didn't stay the wholw three days to watch. It was very boring. Instead, I went to watch the zebras have sex...

PREMATURE EJACULATION WHA HA HA!!!

Now watching "Silent Night, Deadly Night" on YouTube...

Yeah, just leave the impressionable child with the mentally damaged adult...no wonder he got screwed up...

Oh WOW! I might have flown out there on a whim if only I hadn't read this a day late. All we get is It's a Wonderful Life (introduced by Zuzu) and White Christmas.

I like the tagline on the poster..."If this movie doesn't make your skin crawl, IT'S ON TOO TIGHT!"

How appropriate for LA!

I actually got to go and bask in the awesomeness of the double bill and the mini-tribute to Bob Clark. It's the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time. I never realized how good "Black Christmas" was until I saw it on the big screen. It was a pretty special night. Hope you had as much fun as I did. :)

Oh, and who were the ladies with the video camera? Ideas?

Stacie Ponder said...

It. Was. AWESOME. It's unbelievable how scary BC still is, and the crowd just made it even better. And John Saxon is the MAN!

Ladies with video cameras? Hmm. Didn't notice them.

Actually, there's a chance that one of them was me. :)

I had a feeling it was you and your partner in crime (Amanda by Night?) roving about with the camera. Fear not. Your secret identity is safe with me. And I have to say I found your mumu quite fetching. :)

Ah, Stacie you shouldn't have!!

I wish I lived all the way out there, it would have been fun to see SNDN on the big screen.
