awesome movie poster friday- the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET edition!

1) I'm not the hugest Nightmare on Elm Street fan, but the Matthew Peak posters are among some of my favorites evarrrr- especially for the first and third films.

2) Renny Harlin directed The Dream Master? Huh. Whaddayou know.

3) I like the Japanese poster for the original film (3rd down) where Freddy is wearing a t-shirt with a pop art picture of himself on it.

4) Some of these images are courtesy of The Nightmare on Elm Street Resource Page- an exceedingly rad...err..Nightmare on Elm Street resource page.

5) For Freddy vs Jason posters, hit the AMPF FRIDAY the 13th edition.

6) I bid you good day.

Terrific collection! Interesting to note that the U.S. posters all pretty much retain the Freddy Single Bulging Eyeball, despite the fact that he doesn't look that way in the movies. It almost makes it seem as though - gasp - someone put thought into creating a visual consistency across all of the sequels. I guess that's meant to appeal to the 2.4% of the audience crossover between horror fans and marketing dorks.

Hey, Turkish!

I think my favorite bit of typography, though is the stabby descenders on the Thai ones!

Consider me a part of that 2.4%, burbanked. I love that the poster had a visual theme throughout virtually the entire series...in fact, I like it more than the films themselves!

Bill, "The Stabby Descenders" is a great band name. Or gang name.

Now I want to start a gang.

Love the horizontal one. On Elm Street, fried worm eats YOU

If anything, the posters are more consistent than the storylines turned out to be. Nice to know the marketers are doing their jobs even if the filmmakers aren't.

Apparently Freddie's new nightmare is having to vacation in Germany.

I say good day, sir!

Did the Nightmare TV series have any posters?

That James Bond rip-off is... dare I say it... I dare.... to die for. what can I say, Freddy brings out the crappy-punster in me.

I love how the second Nightmare film is a big allegory for homosexuality. Oh, the blessed tides of homos!

Nightmare 2 is so horribly misunderstood, it's really a great film. Honest.

I love these movies, especially the first three.

Gang? I'm in. So what's our gang sign, a stabby-stabby gesture while pretending to walk down stairs?

And I'll be the first to declare war against our bitter rivals the Pokey Ascenders.

Am I alone in thinking that the Japanese poster for Dream Child (8th from bottom) is just. plain. wrong?

I like the one where the giant wet Freddie-phallus eats the girl but she's kinda into it - as any girl would be.

Wow, a few NIGHTMARE posters I haven't seen before. Excellent finds. A for once Thailand comes ahead of Japan in having the greatest collage styles!

"the giant wet Freddie-phallus eats the girl"

It's almost impossible not to be turned on. If it's good enough for Patricia Arquette...

I'm probably alone in thinking this, but Renny Harlin directed the hell out of Nightmare 4 and it may be the only really good thing he ever did.

The Japanese poster for Nightmare 5 is both amazing and disturbing at the same time...

Those were some great posters. I haven't posted in a while, but I've been around. BTW, I used to post as Lunchmeat. Hope everyone's doing ok these days.

I think I'm with Stacie, I enjoyed some of these posters more than the films.

I think my favorite is the eighth one down, the one for part 3 in I think Japanese. Not only does it have Freddy getting smacked down with magic but if you look at the bottom right corner it also appears that Freddy is doing jazz hands!

p.s. Stacie, maybe you should start a gang/band. That way you could bust into song and dance during a knife fight.

The second poster from the top for the first Nightmare almost looks like the playbill for a Grand Guinol Broadway musical-autopsy with tuxedoed half-dead victim-dancers called the Langenkampettes! Um...am I alone on this?

The poster for A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is the best thing about that movie. Well, that and Clu Gulager bitching about the exploding parakeet.
The Deam Warriors poster is one of my favorites, ever. I just love it. That is all.
Woah! WTF is with that kid in the Freddy sweater? I don't remember that one at all!

Those are some very kick ass posters. I love the Freddy's Dead poster. Simple, but great. Good collection, surely.

Hey, this is my first time commenting but I come here alot. I really like your blog. I am writing a horror film and was just wondering if you could make a list of what makes the perfect final girl. I need a little help in that department.

The Jp. one for the 5th movie... zhuh?

But those Japanese sure do love their chibis...

Some great posters there. Love the Bond rip-off. Always liked the first Elm St movie, but have a soft spot for part 2 (it's called quicksand). Btw, what happened to the Streep lookalike from this film?

This is way off-topic but you left a post a while ago saying you were totally excited for I Know Who Killed Me... but no follow up!

Did anyone else think it was absolutely like Hitchcock directed it?

Did that blond kid/Japanese poster really put asses in the seats? I have never actually seen that before and it looks like me at that age in a NOES ad campaign. And that is definitely not a good thing.

This poster Friday reminds me of how much Freddy ruled the land back then before we all realized how too jockey he was.

Fuck Michael Bay!

urrrr i tried before... look closely on the original poster for a tiny snake monster from "Dreamscape", (up in nancy's hair) which of course inspired whats-his-craven.
