You guys should see some of the promotional video interviews they did for Imagine Me and You and see how much they hated The Cave. A woman approached me with a clipboard and I answered some questions...then she led me deep into the bowels of the mall where I watched a shampoo commercial. She then proceeded to ask about 58749654896549 questions- I was there for about a half hour and I kept asking if I could leave (why I didn't simply walk out beats me...guess I didn't feel like being rude that day), to which she'd reply "Just a couple more". When I finall left I felt a bit as if I'd done a tour of duty.

Thanks, Spaceman! And I must say, I agree with you- I'd love to see this movie hit screens. I mean that IS a blockbuster scenario right there, it's only a matter of time before that plot his the big screen. One of the people there was doing a survey thing and it paid like $5. Well, shit, 5 bucks is five bucks. Free money. So they had me watch the trailer for The Cave and then they asked me some questions about it.

I spent the $5 probably that day (cigarettes if I had to guess). Thanks for the heads-up, Bill!

It's interesting to watch The Cave after having seen The Descent because you're right, Josh, there are some similarities in the perils faced; it's fun to analyze the difference in approaches and why one works and the other doesn't, or why one is more tense than the other. Jump cuts, loud music = not tense. Quiet, long shots= tense.

ANd I don't see how an R-rating would help this movie, although it might make the kills more interesting to watch. They're pretty dull as it stands.

I should've known I could count on you, Heather, for some CPR tidbits...thanks! The cutting of the wetsuit just seemed so gratuitous to me, like it was a flimsy excuse to get a shot of Lena Headey in a bra.

That might be giving the film too much credit, though.Stacie Ponderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07784074536271206501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-84634537724946539532007-02-07T14:02:00.000-05:002007-02-07T14:02:00.000-05:00If I remember right Stacie, one of the instruction...If I remember right Stacie, one of the instructions was to loosen any restrictive clothing, not take them off. In the CPR classes I have been in or attended, we were never told that. Unless it was keeping a person from breathing I wouldn't worry about what the person was wearing. The director would have you believe the "lost" R rated cut makes it less so, but I can't see how...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13599870.post-43601188518505958922007-02-07T12:14:00.000-05:002007-02-07T12:14:00.000-05:00Great and hilarious review, Stacie.
The bit with ...Great and hilarious review, Stacie.

The bit with her parasite eyes there puts me in mind of the terrifying ending of Zoltan, Hound of Dracula.

Oh, hey, that's a '70s horror film. You would dig it. It sort of prefigures the goofiness of Strays, during all of whose Monster P.O.V. shots, I sing "e-vil kit-ty... e-vil kit-ty" to the theme from Jaws

Anyway, the main special effect to let you know that Zoltan is a vampire dog is that his eyes glow green. Kinda like someone just off camera is shining a flashlight in his eyes. Ooh. A whole new dimension of terror.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the terrifying ending. If I'm remembering right, Zoltan, before getting staked in the heart, has managed to get his chomp on with some of the family dogs (also Great Danes, I think). And in the terrifying conclusion, after the dénoument, it's revealed that, one of them is back from the grave! A vampire puppy! Not only does he crawl out of his grave, but his eyes glow! BUM BUM BUM BAAAAAAH!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
